Strengthening the Global Game: FIH President Champions Vision for Worldwide Hockey Development

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) President, Mr. Tayyab Ikram, has reaffirmed his global development vision during a significant visit to Ismailia, Egypt, where he attended the 25th Ordinary Congress of the African Hockey Federation (AfHF). His presence underscored FIH’s ongoing commitment to strengthening engagement, unity, and growth across every region of the hockey world.

During the congress, President Ikram held a series of focused discussions with AfHF representatives and National Associations, advancing the FIH Empowerment and Engagement Strategy — a key pillar of his long-term vision for sustainable global progress. The conversations highlighted practical pathways for strengthening hockey infrastructure, expanding the installation of Hockey5s pitches, increasing development grants, supporting Olympic Solidarity programs, and boosting participation in international competitions.

A special session titled “Meet the FIH President – Empowerment and Engagement” created space for open dialogue, allowing African National Associations to share their challenges, successes, and ideas for deeper collaboration. The interactive exchanges reinforced the importance of strong partnerships between FIH, continental federations, and member nations.

President Ikram stressed that development is not achieved through isolated meetings, but through continuous engagement, long-term planning, and shared responsibility.
Meetings like these are not one-time discussions — they represent a continuous process of engagement and follow-up,” he said. “Through regular dialogue and partnership with our continental and national associations, we can ensure consistent progress and lasting impact for hockey development.

His efforts form part of a broader global vision to connect and empower hockey communities worldwide — ensuring that nations across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania all benefit from shared knowledge, resources, and opportunities to grow the sport.

Across the Pan American region, the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) echoed its support for this collective mission, celebrating the FIH’s dedication to collaboration and inclusion. These values lie at the heart of PAHF’s commitment to expanding hockey throughout the Americas.

United under the spirit of #OneHockeyFamily, the global hockey community continues working together to build stronger pathways for participation, development, and excellence — from grassroots fields to international arenas.
